1 general:: Also, run of bad luck. A continued spell of good (or bad) fortune, as in The builder had a run of luck with day after day of good weather, or Nothing was going right; he was having a long run of bad luck. Originally used mainly in games of chance, this idiom was first recorded in 1782, but the use of run for a continued spell of something dates from the late 1600s.
